Study timer
Fifty minutes of study, ten away. Set and free.
A study timer's only job is to make the session a decision you take once, at the start, instead of a hundred small ones about whether to keep going.
This one is set to 50 minutes of study and a 10-minute break — long enough for real depth, and a break long enough to leave the desk. Press start.
What it is for
When a study timer helps.
Reading and problem sets
Reading and problem sets need a runway. Fifty minutes gets you past the point where the material stops feeling foreign.
Ending the negotiation
Deciding once, at the start, is the whole trick. Inside the block there is nothing left to negotiate with yourself about.
A term you can see
Sessions add up into a visible field, which is a far better record of a term's work than a list you have already deleted.
Studying alongside someone
Study with a friend in a room and you both see the same field grow, which makes skipping the session slightly harder.
Questions
Study timer, answered.
- How do I use this study timer?
- Press start. It is set to 50 minutes of study followed by a 10-minute break, runs in your browser, and needs no sign-up.
- How long should a study session be?
- Fifty minutes suits reading, problem sets, and revision, where the first minutes go into rebuilding context. If you are struggling to start at all, drop to a 25-minute timer instead.
- What should I do in the break?
- Leave the screen. Walking, eating, or stepping outside restores attention; ten minutes of scrolling generally does not.
- What does the plant have to do with studying?
- Each finished study session grows a plant in your field. Over a term, the field becomes a record of the hours you actually put in.
- Can I set my own study and break lengths?
- Yes. Open the timer settings and set any study and break length from 1 to 120 minutes, or build a longer cycle of named blocks.
